A hot summer day on the Yellowstone
Planning Your Trip

What to Bring: Wear casual clothes and soft soled, tie-on shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Always bring a sweater and sunscreen along on full day trips. Leave extra dry clothes and valuables locked in the car for after the trip.

Weather: Most days are sunny and warm, and you’ll welcome the splash. But in early season (May and June) the water is much colder. For that, we strongly recommend renting wet suits, and we have a large selection of high quality "Farmer John" wet suits in sizes ranging from Kids XS to Adult 4X. In addition, bring a fleece or wool sweater to wear with your wet suit. Wet suits and wet suit booties are $5.00. Booties alone are $2.00.

Children: Children's rates apply to those 12 and under. The minimum age for kids is 6 years old. We take many children down the river every year, although we do restrict children from some stretches at high water levels.

Can't Swim? We take many non-swimmers down the river every year. Each passenger must wear a properly fitting life preserver at all times on the river.

We Provide: Rain jackets and rain pants, Coast Guard approved Type V life jackets, lunch and beverages for full day trips, and transportation to and from the river.

Groups and Discounts: Youth groups, wedding parties, family reunions, corporate seminars - whatever your group, we would be glad to arrange a trip and schedule to meet your special needs. We are well equipped to handle large parties. If you have a group of 10 or more, inquire about discounts on any of our trips.

Photos: Photos are taken of most trips, and proofs will be available to order from when you return to our office.

Fees and Gratuities: We are licensed by the B.L.M. and the U.S. Forest Service for the trips we run. The B.L.M. service fee for the Yellowstone River is included in our price. Gratuities are not included, but are always appreciated for excellent service.

Reservations: Call, write or e-mail info@yellowstoneraft.com anytime for reservations. We require a $10 deposit per person for all half day trips and $20 per person for all full day trips. Your deposit is full refundable as long as you cancel at least 24 hours before your half day trip, or 48 hours before your full day trip. Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards accepted.

We reserve the right to cancel trips due to:

  • Water levels that are too high or too low.
  • Unseasonably cold temperatures
  • Insufficient number of people (4 person minimum for rafting, 2 person minimum for kayaking)

Responsibility: Although every precaution is taken to safeguard you and your belongings, river trips by their nature, involve a certain amount of risk. Yellowstone Raft Co./R & R Rafting, Inc. and their personnel and cooperating agencies assume no responsibility whatsoever for injuries, damages, losses or delays to person or property. We recommend the purchase of an inexpensive travel insurance plan, including accident coverage. We require that you acknowledge these risks by reading and signing a liability release prior to departure.

About Us
The Yellowstone Raft Company was started in 1978 as the original whitewater outfitter in Gardiner. Although owners have changed over the years, commitment to safety and whitewater excellence has remained. Still the most experienced company in the valley retaining some guides with up to 15 plus years experience and requiring all of our guides to have first aid, CPR, swiftwater rescue, and extensive training. Current owners Rob and Robin Trotter have guided commercially all over the country from California to West Virginia and Alaska to Colorado, bringing their experience and love of rivers to the Yellowstone Raft Company. Through the years they have found that safety, quality of guides, professionalism, and kindness are key factors in providing a quality river trip. You can find them in the office taking reservations, handing out wetsuits, driving the bus, or guiding you down the river.
